Exciting history meets expansive present
Fabege is the largest property owner in the office market in Hammarby Sjöstad, an expansive and attractive waterside location in Stockholm inner city. Hammarby Sjöstad was planned with a focus on sustainability.
With a high service level, proximity to railway services, excellent opportunities for cycling to work, well-developed public transport – including boat travel – and access to magnificent green spaces, Hammarby Sjöstad is an example of Fabege's ambitions and goals. We aim to offer our tenants a workplace that makes life simple, flexible – and good.
The area around Lake Hammarby has long played an important role in Stockholm's economic development. Agricultural operations have been conducted in the area since the 1300s and some of the city's largest companies, such as Liljeholmens Stearinfabrik, were established by the lake in the 1800s. Today, Hammarby Sjöstad is a vibrant and easily accessible city district, with 25,000 residents and 150,000 square metres of office space where some 10,000 people work.
The office premises in Hammarby Sjöstad have largely been created by converting the former industrial properties. The historical architecture in the area adds a unique, inspiring character to both the premises and the area itself. For example, it is home to one of the principal buildings from the functionalism era in Sweden. The former Luma lamp factory, a centrally located building of significant cultural-historical value, is now an attractive workplace and part of our portfolio in the area.
Hammarby Sjöstad is a city district designed for both businesses and residents, as illustrated by the range of services and transport links. The area houses supermarkets, restaurants, cafés, hair salons, shoemaker's shops, dry cleaners, florist's shops and a tailors. It is also located near Sickla Köpkvarter.
Visit by bicycle, light railway or boat
Located four kilometres from central Stockholm, the area is easily accessible by bus, light railway, bicycle or car – yes, even by boat. The M/S Emelie operates the route from Luma to Nybroplan via Barnängsbryggan, Henriksdalshamnen, Masthamnen and Djurgården. An expansion of the underground railway line from Kungsträdgården is also planned.
Exercise at your doorstep
With Hammarbybacken just next door and the Nacka Reserve nearby, nature is at the doorstep of the offices in the area. In Hammarby Sjöstad, it's easy to put on your running shoes or skis and enjoy a bit of exercise over your lunch break. For people who prefer to exercise inside, the area is home to several gyms.
As the largest property owner in the office market in the area, we work closely with others to continue the development of the district and to improve the environment and services.
