Hotel Giò’s lobby combines old original details with new décor inspired by the building’s distinctive nature. Hotel Giò, located on Råsundavägen, has been nominated for the Solna Urban Environment Award 2020, as one of three finalists in the competition. The nomination highlights how the building’s original character was utilised when it was transformed from a county council office building into a hotel, and we are very proud of this. Utilising the building’s fantastic character and details, and integrating sustainability, have been key aims in the development and opening of Hotel Giò.

Hotel and restaurant Giò opened on 31 March this year in the well-known Hagahuset building at Råsundavägen 1. The hotel takes its inspiration from 1950s Italy, just as the architect Stig Annerfeldt was inspired by Giò Ponti’s contemporary Pirelli Tower in Milan when he created the Hagahuset building in the 1950s.

“It is a great honour to be nominated, and this confirms that we made the right choice when we decided to base the hotel’s entire concept and design around the building and its special character,” says Eva Ilskog, General Manager Hotel Giò.

The property is owned by Fabege, which carefully converted the building from offices into a hotel. Sustainability was taken into account throughout the process, which was demonstrated when the property recently achieved the Excellence level for BREEAM-SE environmental certification.

“We have tried to preserve as many original details as possible in the Hagahuset building, so that it retains its feel and charm. Together with Hotel Giò, we have managed to strike a nice balance between old and new, which has breathed new life into Hagahuset,” says Johanna Axe Skoglund, Project Manager at Fabege.
