Alfa Laval's offices and innovation center have been provisionally certified with BREEAM-SE level excellent

The certification is the result of successful collaboration and high commitment, driven by a well-managed construction process with a focus on constructing robust buildings of long-lasting character. Here, geoenergy and solar cells take the lead when it comes to energy supply, with an impressive reduction in energy consumption of up to 60% compared to the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's building regulations.

Vision Flemingsberg

The project has had high ambitions regarding all user and indoor environment-related indicators in BREEAM, including daylight and outlook, which we hope will result in a high level of well-being among the users.

To reduce the building's CO2 footprint, climate-improved concrete has been used in the foundation and frame, and the facade of the innovation center consists of burnt wood, an ancient Japanese conservation method. The project has also worked hard to reduce the amount of waste during production and to recycle as much material as possible.

We would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who has been involved in the certification and sustainability work in the project so far. Above all, our BREEAM consultants from IVL and Green-level, our project management from FRAM, other designers and experts and our general contractor Skanska. Now we aim to keep the sustainability flag at the top until the project is finished.

What is BREEAM-SE?

BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is a certification system from Great Britain that provides the opportunity to compare the environmental performance of buildings internationally. The system is one of the largest and most widely used international systems in Europe.

In Sweden, the Sweden Green Building Council (SGBC), a member organisation for sustainable community building, has adapted BREEAM to Swedish conditions. The Swedish version, BREEAM-SE, has been the dominant version since 2013 on the Swedish market.

How does the certification take place?

The BREEAM-SE certification takes place in two phases. The first phase is called the "design stage", where the building is assessed from a design perspective. If all criteria are met, the building receives a preliminary certificate showing the preliminary rating level.

The second phase is called "post construction" certification and can be applied for after the completion of the project to obtain a final certificate with grade level for the entire project.

Flemingsberg

Flemingsberg is one of Sweden's largest development projects and an important part of how Stockholm is changing. With excellent communications and growing business clusters, we can achieve a regional balance between southern and northern Stockholm. We see a future vibrant district with 50,000 workers, 50,000 residents and 50,000 daily visitors.
